Least Killifish baby guards food flake

Least Killifish baby guards food flake

Buy Least Killifish locally on Craigslist:
or Buy Least Killifish on Amazon (paid link):

A baby Least Killifish found a food flake.

The flake is too big for eating it in one take...
And that's when we can observe interesting behavior of Least Killifish.

The baby protects the food from all other competitors.

This snail could be that competitor too 😊

The baby fish can chase away only younger and smaller fish.

But those hungry younglings are persistent 😊

The younger baby lures the larger one away from the food and gets to the food first this time!
Adult males use the same technique competing with stronger opponents during mating!

Here comes an adult male.
He is not hungry - just curious to see what those younglings are fussing about.

He has to keep an eye on fast growing competitors and their fighting skills.

Oh-oh, more scavengers found the food flake.

Adult scuds are too big and not scared of Least Killifish babies.

It would take a large hungry mama Least Killifish to scare adult scuds.
Least Killifish feed on smaller sized baby scuds.

With so many adult scuds gathered around the food flake is lost now.
Have fun and happy fish :)
