I've been growing Algerian Ivy in aquariums with roots in water since 2016.
Please check my previous videos for more details.
July 2022
I want to check how Algerian Ivy would grow in a high-humidity paludarium that I set up for Eastern Newts.
Here it goes— with roots in water.
I've been growing different terrestrial plants with roots in water.
Different types of ivies, all shown in previous videos.
Terrestrial plants growing with roots in water feed on nutrition dissolved in water.
Plants serve very effectively as natural water filters in my self-sustaining aquariums.
January 2024
The plant has grown very noticeably through the year and a half.
You can see this season’s bright green growth.
Here you can see thin and yet hard roots of the plant.
The plant also rooted at the bottom of the arch I put in water here.
Algerian ivy actually grows slower compared to other ivies growing with roots in water.
Pothos is the fastest-growing terrestrial plant with roots in water among all I tried.
Four months later in April 2024.
The Algerian ivy plant apparently enjoyed the front side in this tank that provides more light.
You can see the plant has grown a lot in the past couple of months.
And the roots have grown enormously long in such a short time!
It's about two feet long.
This time I am going to move the plant to the back wall of the tank.
Here it is.
Roots only stay in the water— I keep all leaves above the water level.
July 2024
It's been two years since I moved this Algerian ivy plant into a high-humidity tank.
It looks great!
Let's make a new cutting to grow another plant.
I have to remove the bottom leaves that wilted while touching the water surface.
Remember to keep all leaves above the water level.
I am going to place the cutting here for now.
This land platform is filled with gravel, covered with mosses, and has water running under it.
I actually culture aquatic scuds on this platform for feeding fish in this tank.
Check my previous videos about self feeding aquariums.
Algerian ivy is simple to grow and looks very attractive in aquariums.
Have fun and happy aquariums :)
