What I Found in Meadow Lake

June 17th, 2019
Meadow Lake of Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens, New York.

The water is polluted with tiny dark particles.
Those particles seem to be suspended in water.

And there are a couple leaves of an aquatic plant.
Time-lapse video reveals movements of those leaves.
Let's get a closer look from the top.
Yeap, there is a worm-like critter.

It hides in the stem of the plant.
And some dark particles seem to be moving around too...

There is another worm-like critter on the bottom.

I see copepods dashing around.

The worm-like critter living in the stem moves the stem around with surprising speed.

But look how fast this critter can move through the water!

Here is a closeup view on the speedy critter.

And that is a closeup view on the worm-like critter in the stem.

It looks like a caterpillar to me.

It amazes me how much life can be in 60 ml of even polluted water.

I get different critters all the time in samples collected in the wild or bought from stores.

Well, getting wild samples is always fun filled with discoveries.

Discoveries that are waiting for you.
Have fun and happy adventures :)
