Roosevelt Island New York on May 5th, 2025.
I spotted a geese family walking 21 goslings.
Geese typically have up to a dozen goslings in one clutch.
This large group of goslings most likely formed by different parents.
It commonly happens in areas of high nest density.
Basically, more experienced adult geese kidnap goslings from younger pairs.
Here you can see the younger couple without goslings.
And here is another couple left with only one gosling.
Look how protective the parents are over this single and therefore even more precious to them gosling.
There are many more geese couples without any goslings.
The parenting couple would not let any other goose, man or whoever else get close to their precious gosling.
Both parents are on high alert and ready to engage.
Geese could get very emotional when it comes to protecting their families.
Have fun and happy family :)
