Let's check how well Endlers females will do in aquarium with Least Killifish males only.
I choose 2 young females to avoid any confusion about their offsprings if it ever comes to it.
I put them all in the same aquarium where I previously kept 3 Endlers males with 3 Least Killifish males.
Please check my previous video about this experiment.
The same 3 Least Killifish males stay in the aquarium for this experiment.
I wonder if they will show any aggression toward young Endlers females.
I dropped some Grindal worms to make fish feel welcomed in this new for them home.
Most fish still prefer to go after scuds first :)
And... Least Killifish males finally start approaching young Endlers females.
Cautiously and slowly moving closer.
It is the first encounter with never seen before fish for all of them!
The female noticed the approaching her male and... she calmly went back for her food.
This young Endlers female is already slightly larger than the Least Killifish male.
She is certainly not scared of this male.
Now it looks like she is protecting her food.
Through the following months I noticed that Least Killifish males would occasionally follow Endlers females.
It's noticeable different compare to how males devoted in following Least Killifish females.
Feeding time often reveals interesting behavior patterns.
Least Killifish males are the first to find the food.
Though, all males usually consume much less food than females do.
I did not notice any conflicts between males and females during feeding.
Eventually one of the females established her dominance, as it usually happens in Endlers and Least Killifish societies.
The dominant female chases away the other female and males on her whim too.
She is the queen of this aquarium.
The Least Killifish males stay closer to the queen - easy choice between only two available females.
The queen Endlers female would not allow the other female to get anywhere close to the Least Killifish males.
And to answer the main question - there were no babies in 6 months of the experiment.
Before getting the full colony of Endlers fish with Least Killifish in one aquarium I still need to do one more check.
So, for the next test I will put Endlers males with Least Killifish females to check how they will get together.
Have fun and happy aquariums :)
