Orange springtails feeding on cereal

I've been keeping two types of springtails in this terrarium.

Buy Springtails locally on Craigslist:
or buy Springtails on Amazon (paid link):

Here you can see a couple large Orange and a crowd of smaller white or grayish springtails.

They are different species that coexist peacefully feeding on the same food.

In this example I feed springtails with cereal.
Cheerios is the best among all I've tried so far.

Initially I give a very small amount of food, a quarter of a flake, for springtails to try it.

Crash the flake and sprinkle it on top of the feeding surface.

Moist the culture.

All set and ready.

Sit back and enjoy watching time-lapse recordings.

Springtails start gathering around the food rather quickly.

Noticeably, Orange springtails prefer moving close to the wet walls of the tank.
And that's where they pick food first.

As food gets consumed, Springtails move to the middle of the feeding spot.

It took about 24 hours for Springtails to consume food in this example.
And then Springtails move on exploring the substrate and mosses of the terrarium.

Now we are back to normal speed.
Orange springtails are very adorable.

And Springtails are one of the best cleaning crews for terrariums.
Have fun and happy Springtails :)
