Nymph molts

A dragonfly nymph stays hours in one spot waiting for prey.
It moves to a new position a couple times a day.

It would engage a smaller prey.

It is always in different spots.

January 28, 2017
It stays in one spot all day.

And the next day, too!

It is up to something!

January 30, 2017
It's becoming obvious on the 3rd day.

At first I thought there are two nymphs.
My nymph chose this spot to molt!
This spot seems a safe place for such a special occasion.
Look how pretty its new exterior is.
It takes time to adjust to a new body.
Nice green on top.

Pinkish belly!
It takes awkward steps to move away.

Here is the same nymph in 5 hours.
What a change of colors!
It is ready to hunt.

Nymphs molt many times as their body grows.
Some dragonfly nymphs live years under water until they reach the final stage of development and become a dragonfly.
I wonder what type of dragonfly this nymph is.
Have fun and happy nymph :)
