GoPro Re-Fuel long hours extended battery

GoPro Re-Fuel long hours extended battery

I've been using GoPro Hero 5 mounted on a helmet for recording my rides on a bicycle.
The original GoPro battery gives 90 minutes of recording in HD 30 frames.

I replaced the door with a rubber plug to simplify the charging as you can see here.

And I've been using an additional battery for recording longer than 90 minutes rides.

Replacing the battery takes just a minute.
I have to do it every hour and half while charging spare batteries for longer than 3 hours rides.

Portable power banks for recharging spare batteries on the go take space in my backpack.
It's an annoying daily hustle I want to avoid.

I bought a Re-Fuel 9 hour extended battery in May 2024.

This Re-Fuel extended battery is designed to work with the Hero 7, Hero 6 and Hero 5 that I have.
It is supposed to give 8 hours of recording time in full HD!

Let's take it for a spin.

This extended battery serves as a housing for GoPro cameras.
It is water-proofed.

The package includes a charging USB cable, the manual and two mounting attachments.

Read the manual.

Here you can see my GoPro Hero 5 mounted on a vented helmet.

The extended battery is much larger than the original GoPro housing.

I use the GoPro without the door covering the charging port as I mentioned before.
And the door has to be removed for using the GoPro with the extended battery.
The extended battery has to be plugged in the charging port of the camera all the time.

The extended battery mounting is compatible with a standard GoPro mount.

Put the GoPro camera in the housing of the extended battery.

Make sure the memory card is in the camera.
Plug the camera in the USB of the extended battery.

And lock the housing - the lock is pretty tight.

There are two mount attachments to choose from.

I go with the standard GoPro mount.
It allows you to point the camera at any desirable angle.

With this attachment the housing could be dismounted without any tools.
It's convenient for moving the camera with the battery between two or more helmets ;)

I use a longer screw for attaching this extended battery.

The housing of the extended battery is water-proofed.

The door covering the USB port fits very tight!

And the door can be removed or replaced if necessary.

Make sure to keep it locked while riding in the rain.

Press and hold the button for a couple seconds to turn ON the extended battery.

It starts charging the camera regardless whether the camera is ON or OFF.

The four blue lights on the side indicate how much charge is in the extended battery.

Let's fully charge the extended battery before doing the first check.

I start recording at 10pm on May 14th.

The extended battery and the GoPro battery are fully charged.

I record in full HD 30 frames.
The Wi-Fi is OFF and the screen is OFF.

The next morning after 6am the camera is still recording.

8+ hours of non-stop recording at 72F room temperature.
It's a very impressive recording time!

It looks bulky and admittedly heavy mounted on the helmet.

Nevertheless, I am very happy with 8+ hours of worriless recording :)

I ride 3 hours on an average day all year round recording my rides.

This extended battery works great for me.
Have fun and happy videos :)
