The 1.6 miles bike lane of Queensboro bridge is often overcrowded with cyclists and pedestrians squeezed in about 9 feet narrow space.
A couple hundred thousand people use this path every month.
It gets crowder during nice days even between rush hours.
Traffic goes in both directions on every side of the path.
It's very frustrating to ride here during crowded rush hours - any regular commuter would tell you that.
And it's a pure joy to ride this path when it's empty!
There is one, a very particular day of the year to experience the empty bike path on QBB.
Take a ride during the Super Bowl game :)
That is the evening to fly your bike over QBB!
While the crowd sticks to their screens watching the game - it is the best time to blast all your personal records on QBB in the dark mode!
The path is mine!
Go for it. GO!
Riding in the pitch dark feels...different!
I count only 5 people on the path while making this time.
It happens only during Super Bowl games!
Say what you want, but I have to admit - I enjoyed riding this empty QBB more than watching the Super Bowl game 2024.
Go for it! And again :)
Have fun and safe rides :)
