There are about 3 dozen fish in this 29 gallon tall aquarium.
Can you see them?
You have to get really close to the aquarium and look hard to see the fish.
The Least Killifish (Heterandria Formosa) is the smallest livebearer fish native to the Northern America.
Adult fish (females) grow up to one inch - less than a coin size.
Adult males, as you see here, are much smaller than females.
Small sized, plain colored, moving around without attracting unwanted attention even in open water.
Males spend most of the time chasing each other away from females they follow.
Feeding time is the only time when all fish gather together, appearing seemingly from nowhere.
Here you can see almost all of them.
Time-lapse recording reveals Least Killifish movements patterns in the aquarium.
They spread all over the entire aquarium through the day and night.
Now we are back to the normal view.
And again, we have to step close to the aquarium for watching this small fish.
Least Killifish prefer live food - tiny hunters! they are.
Here you can see the largest female hunts down an adult scud.
This adult scud was too big to swallow even for the largest mama Least Killifish :)
Keeping small Least Killifish in large aquariums like this one, makes sense maybe... for growing them in very big numbers.
Honestly, I really enjoy watching Least Killifish in a 10 times smaller size tank.
This 3 gallon aquarium is the original house for the entire 3 dozen Least Killifish colony.
Have fun and happy aquariums :)
