Keeping Endlers Males with Least Killifish Females

Keeping Endlers Males with Least Killifish Females

Buy Endlers locally on Craigslist:
or Buy Endlers on Amazon (paid link):

I pick two Least Killifish females to check how well they will get along with Endlers males.

Both females are young adults.

Let's put them in my cube aquarium where I previously kept Endlers females with Least Killifish males.
It's one of the experiments I've been doing to check compatibility of Endlers and Least Killifish.
Previous two experiments highlighted interesting behavior patterns.
Please check my videos for more details about it.

Okay, so the females are in the new for them aquarium.
Actually, there is a chance they were born in this tank - I used to keep a colony of Least Killifish here :)

Now let's put this 3 Blue Star Endlers males in this tank.
All young and pretty they are.

Here they go.
True to their nature Endlers males tend to stay next to each other.

Least Killifish females are not afraid to come close for checking on new never seen before fish.
I pick all fish of about the same sizes/ age for better compatibility.

Initially the males seem to be interested in new fish, but did not follow the Least Killifish females.
In the following weeks the Endlers males stay together in a close group most of the time.

And so it was all peaceful until something very unusual happens.

Two Endlers males start fighting each other.
Normally Endlers males only dancing around showing off their pretty tails and fast butterfly movements.
It is the first time ever I see Endlers males trying to physically hurt each other.

The fight happens long after the feeding time - so, it was not over the food.

Both opponents persistently attack each other for over 10 minutes during my observation before I made ultimate decision.

They stopped fighting shortly after I added two Endlers females in the aquarium.

There was no aggression between Endlers and Least Killifish during this and the previous experiments.
So, it should be safe to keep Endlers with Least Killifish in one tank.
Endlers males gets aggressive toward each other when kept long time without females.

Have fun and happy aquariums :)
