Mulberry Leaves Fish Food Flakes

Mulberry trees grow on every continent where people live and are well known for their sweet berries and soft silk.

Much less known is that mulberry leaves are edible too.
I take cuttings from mulberry bushes that grow nearby on September 8th, 2019.

 Pick only fresh green leaves.

Cut off leaves from the stems.

I keep only fresh green leaves without stems.

Earthworms collected right on streets after rain make nice fish food.

I freeze worms with spare plants growing in my aquariums.

Now it's time to put it all in a blender.

Add mulberry leaves.

You can add any edible green leaves from the kitchen for this matter - except onion ;)

Add dechlorinated water.
Water helps blending.

Blend it all.

Add more mulberry leaves.
I make mulberry leaves, in this example, the majority of the blend.

Add a clove of garlic to the blend.

We have made a very healthy smoothie for fish :)

Pour the mixture on plastic lids of food boxes.

Spread the mixture evenly in a thin layer.

And let it dry.
It takes a couple days to dry a thin layer of the mixture at room temperature.

The well dry mixture peels from the lid making nice flakes.

It takes longer to dry a thicker layer of mixter.

Give a small pinch of flakes to your fish at normal feeding time to see if your fish like it.

It looks like my guppies enjoy it.

The normal amount of food should take a couple minutes to eat.
If it takes longer to eat, then next time you should give less food or skip the feeding.

I keep fish food flakes in a box placed in a cool dry place, away from direct sunlight.

Fish like variations in food.
So, making small batches of food using different ingredients makes more sense.

Have fun and happy aquariums :)
