FLAT FEEDING SPOT in aquariums

Food leftovers cause most of the problems in aquariums.
Flat feeding spots in aquariums reduce food leftovers.

Buy flat rocks on Amazon (paid link):

Making flat feeding spots is the easiest way of preventing overfeeding.

Simple one time installation of a flat feeding spot serves for the lifetime of your aquarium.
Water quality, health of all aquatic pets, critters - you name it, depends on it.
That is the gist of it.

The first time I mentioned a flat feeding spot in the video about setting up this vertical paludarium.

It serves the purpose with great results.
I tested it with fish - no food leftovers remains no matter how much food I give.

And flat feeding spots serve great for feeding snails and scuds.

Every single crumble of food gets eaten - clean.

I pick flat rocks and bricks for making flat feeding spots while walking along the river.

There are plenty of rocks to choose from 🙂

Wash rocks clean before placing them in aquariums.

The bottom glass surface of the tank is hard for pets to walk on and it has the mirror effect.

Here you can see the reflection of the newt in the bottom glass it stands on.

Newts, some fish and other pets may fight with the reflection hunting for their food.
And pets may go after reflection of the live food instead too.

With some practice pets get used to the glass surface...

Nevertheless, glass is less practical for using as a flat feeding spot than rocks.

For my pets sake, I prefer to cover the glass surface with flat rocks.

I drop all food right above the feeding spot.

Even floating food eventually gets soaked and sinks down to the flat feeding spot at the bottom.

Here the food is going to stay as long as it takes for pets to find and eat it.

The flat feeding spot is fenced by rocks mounting above on all sides to keep the food in.

This arrangement is the most effective among all I tried previously so far.

By the end of the day the huge pile of the food is eaten clean.

The flat feeding spot in the middle of this tank takes about 1/3 of the bottom surface,
stretching from the front to the back wall.

The flat surface also makes it easy for pets to pick live food.

The open hunting ground of the flat feeding spot is great for making observations.

It is the best place to find food :)

The rest of the bottom is covered with rocks and gravel for tiny critters to hide and breed.

Pets eat 100% of the food in aquariums with flat feeding spots.

There are no crumbs left to get spoiled in the tank.

Simple and effective and... it costs nothing to make a flat feeding spot in any aquarium.

I only wish more people would use flat feeding spots in aquariums.
Have fun and happy aquariums :)
