Scuds - the Best live food for fish

Scuds - the Best live food for fish

Buy Scuds locally on Craigslist:
or buy Scuds on Amazon (paid link):

I keep Scuds, also known as Gammarus, Side swimmers, in all my aquariums.
Here you can see scuds in my cube aquarium before I added fish.

Scuds feed on detritus, leftovers of fish food and everything else growing in aquariums.

A colony of scuds makes the simplest carefree cleaning crew for any aquarium.

A pair of scuds produces thousands of babies in just one year lifespan time.
The speckle sized newborn baby scuds make perfect live food for newborn fish.
Adult fish hunt larger sized scuds which can grow up to 1 cm long.
In aquariums, fish keep the population of scuds checked.

I add more scuds into aquariums with fish at least once a month.
Simply scoop some scuds from one of containers where I breed only scuds.

And drop them into the aquarium with fish preferably after regular feeding time.

The aquarium instantly filled with actions!

Even not so hungry after the feeding fish gets excited and start chasing scuds :)
Notice that my toothless fish picks mostly on smaller sized scuds that can be swallowed in one take.
Though, big hungry mama fish can take any large size scud on a whim.

Scuds get busy cleaning the bottom of the tank right away!

Funny to watch critters they are :)
And very useful for this matter!

Fish get very engaged watching and catching busy cleaning aquarium scuds.

The best part is that scuds keep breeding continuously right in the aquarium.

Scuds are the most versatile live fish food in aquariums.
Scuds breed proficiently in the greenest aquariums feeding on algae if nothing else available.

Among different types of live fish food that I tried in my aquariums scuds stand out simply as the best.
Scuds make easiest to culture live food for fish and newts and other aquatic pets.

Also, self-feeding sustaining aquariums benefit greatly in many ways from scuds.
I leave it for you to check my previous videos for more details about scuds.
Have fun and happy aquariums :)
