I bought a Fluter Bug interactive cat toy for my 5-month-old kittens.
Link on Amazon in the description to the video (paid link): https://amzn.to/4nWxca9
It runs on 3 AA batteries, and there is one button to turn it on and off.
It's a super easy toy to set up - nothing to talk about it.
I would rather let my kittens introduce the toy to you.
Here you can see the very first time I turned the toy for kittens to try it.
Let's turn it on.
Oh-oh…surprise - the butterfly flutters :)
Kittens look suspiciously at the toy...
The largest male kitten, Eli, is the most adventurous.
He is the first to rescue his siblings from such a suspiciously fluttering bug.
Yeah, this is the way to deal with any bug :)
Teddy also gives it a try and decides to just watch from a safe distance for now.
The smallest kitten, Lisa, is all attention on Eli with the toy.
Every kitten is different, and this example shows it perfectly.
It took less than a minute for Eli to figure out how to catch the butterfly.
Teddy is the second kitten to try the new toy.
He is more cautious than Eli - still keeps the safe distance :)
Eli is the hunter and scared of nothing.
Look at Lisa.
She is the smallest and very shy kitten.
Lisa is a super keen and skilled hunter!
She learns patterns, evaluates all angles, and chooses her position and timing to engage wisely.
Yeah, Eli already knows how to hold the fluttering butterfly in place :)
Cats smart!
With big brothers stepping away from the toy, Lisa gets on the game.
She is still cautious.
Even she is the smallest, the most cautious, and the shy - the big brothers know better to stay away from her games.
The more Lisa plays, the more engaged she gets.
The boys left to watch her game :)
And Lisa has stamina for playing long, very long.
This Flutter bug toy has a very sturdy base.
It stays put in the place as it should.
Lisa ran to check quickly on the treats my kittens were getting.
Apparently, she is more interested in the toy than treats, wow!
As a true hunter, Lisa prefers to catch her game.
She let the boys enjoy eating boring treats.
The toy seems to be durable and holds well against claws and teeth of my 5-month-old kittens.
I wonder how long the butterfly toy is going to last as kittens grow pretty fast.
Once Lisa catches her prey, she does what true hunters do - bring it home.
Well, at least she tried.
Lisa is trying to pull the toy to her personal hidden spot (under my bed) where she keeps all her kill trophies.
The toy stays firmly in the place where I put it.
And the game keeps going for more than 10 minutes now.
Watching Lisa enjoying the toy so much, I dare not stop the game.
The boy-kittens have already given up on waiting for their turn to play.
For a full-of-energy kitten as Lisa is, it would take a long time to get her tired of the game.
With cats being cats, I have to supervise the game just to make sure my kittens are safe.
And frankly - I am enjoying it :)
Look how happy she is.
Is Lisa getting tired?
Following the movements of this butterfly for that long, my head would get dizzy for sure.
Yeah, I think she already gets enough.
Or close enough :)
Ah, the game is interrupted for a sneezing break.
The butterfly scored a fluttering strike.
Here, Lisa is going for a revenge round.
So now I think it is time for everyone to stop.
It took about a couple of minutes for my boy-kittens and 15 minutes for Lisa to get tired of the Flutter bug toy.
And it was their first try.
Looks like a great toy for kittens with a particular attitude.
For very persistent and naturally energetic, like Lisa.
She often plays even when the other kittens rest.
So I am not surprised she likes this toy.
Maybe there is a way to make it more attractive for other kittens...
Do your kittens like this toy?
Please let me know in comments.
Have fun and happy kittens :)
