I've been culturing Springtails on different mediums in the past years.

Wilting leaves seem to be the best medium of all as I have already shared with you in the previous video.

Wilting leaves have the best water retention quality than any other mediums.

Wilting leaves provide a great volume of surface area for Springtails to breed on.

And wilting leaves available everywhere absolutely for free all year around.

There is one more very important point in the favor of wilting leaves...

Springtails may also feed on wilting leaves.

Let's set up a new culture of springtails to check it out.

I made some holes in the cover for air circulation.

Put some dry leaves in the container.

Spray leaves with some water.

Springtails like and need moisture for surviving.

Here you can see one of my well established cultures of Springtails with Grindal worms.

This culture is on polyester foam and live moss.

I use a piece of plastic for collecting Springtails and Grindal worms.

There are a couple dozen Springtails of different sizes.

Tap on the plastic to shake off Springtails into the new container with leaves.

There is an uncountable amount of Springtails in the old culture.

Let's add some more Springtails into the new container.

I prefer to keep Springtails in the same containers with Grindal worms.

They get along very well feeding on the same food.

Springtails also feed on waste produced by Grindal worms.

And my fish enjoy eating Springtails as much as eating Grindal worms.

Well, the new culture I seed only with Springtails for the purpose of the experiment.

Here is a close up view on the Springtails in the new container.

Temperate Springtails are great jumpers.

Cover the container.

All set and ready on May 9th, 2022

I check on this Springtails culture once a week.

Just to see what's going on and to moist the culture.

Yeah, Springtails are doing fine and leaves are moist.

Let's spray some more water to keep them happy.

Here you can see the culture six weeks later on June 20th.

November 12th, 2022.

The springtails survived on wilting leaves and weekly moistening without me feeding them anything for 6 months.

Wilting leaves is the best medium for Springtails.
